COBIA

Peak Season: November – April

Cobia is super aggressive when it comes to getting them on the end of your line. Once the Cobia hits your lure you'll get thrown into a great fight with it, as Cobia will put you to the test. Cobia is very popular here on Florida's west coast, and they are a ton of fun to catch!

Generally, Cobia is bottom-feeding fish that can become 40 inches within two years. They are commonly found around buoys, pilings, and wrecks in these areas. You can find them in Florida year-round, with high numbers typically in early spring up north and moving south near Crystal River into the Summer.

Cobia is some of the toughest fighters out there but they are still fairly easy to catch. Some people think they look like small sharks as they emerge, sharing pectoral fins and similar colors. Once you hook one, they will make a run for it. Loosening the drag and letting them get tired is key to reeling one of these onto your boat.

Cobia tastes fantastic, the taste is a fresh, clean, and buttery flavor. Cobia has a nice flaked texture, with a not-too-fishy taste. Some say it resembles the taste of mahi-mahi or tuna!
