Species #1 Redfish This is the time of year! If you want to catch a red just about any rocky, oyster, or mangrove point from Homosassa to Cedar Key has them stacked up on it. Shrimp has been our go to bait for the smaller (keeper sized) Fish. Majority of overslots have came on either live pinfish or cutbait. Knocker rig with 25# leader, 1/2 oz lead, and a 4/0 VMC circle hook is our general Crystal River redfish rig. Or a 1/8oz jig head and tail hooked shrimp if we’re in the shallows. Species #1 Redfish Redfishing throughout our region is really picking up. Live pinfish on a knocker rig or live shrimp on a jig head has been our go to baits and rigs. We’re pitching these near the outer mangrove islands and oyster bar on the incoming tide. As far as which islands and bars to fish the old saying of “find the mullet and find the reds” still holds true. Majority of these fish are in the lower slot 20-22″. Our redfish bite should continue to improve until it peaks out in September-October. Species #2 Snook Just like last week

Species #1: Snook Snook fishing from Yankeetown to Homosassa lately has been pretty good. The majority of these fish have come on artificial lures. Just about any mangrove point with fast moving water in our region has a good possibility of holding quality snook. Outgoing tide of late has been the best. Lower tides look for them in deeper pot holes off the islands. Our go to bait is generally a light color doa paddle tail on a 1/8oz jig head moved rapidly. Do occasionally pick one here and there off while fishing for reds with live shrimp or pinfish

Scallop Season Scallop season 2019 is now in full swing. Can’t say we’re pulling in limits but we’re bringing back decent numbers with good swimmers. The meat inside them is about double what they were last year so they add up quick. Over the past week we’ve had near perfect conditions. Light winds, calm seas, and plenty of sun. 6-7 foot has been the most productive lately. Crystal River Fishing Fishing in the summer isn’t always easy but the past few trips have been pretty good. Lacking Reports Each June we take some time off to fish for ourselves. This year it was in the Florida Keys. The weather was hot and the fishing wasn’t bad. Here’s a few pictures! Back in Crystal River We’ve been landing some good fish on our recent fishing charters. Flounder bite around the outer rocky points and bars has been good. Fishing baits tight to the bottom and slowly retrieving them has provided some nice fish. With the summer heat comes lots of trout on the flats from 6-10′ of water. But you do have to pick through quite a

Hot Water Our water temps have been bouncing around from the upper 80’s to low 90’s. When this happens you absolutely want to get on the water as early as you can to beat the heat. At about noon each day the bite has been slowing down. Fishing very late in the day has also been productive lately. No crowds and the view isn’t bad either! Here’s some recent Crystal River Evening Fishing Pictures: Trout and Reds Best trout fishing has been found in 8-10′ over patchy sea grass bottom. Flounder, the inshore flounder bite around Crystal River has really picked up. Getting quite a few smaller ones that must be thrown back but we’re getting some quality keepers in the mix. These are being targeted by thoroughly working bars with soft plastics. The spoil bank is another good area to look for them throughout the summer. This phenomenal eating fish is a personal favorite. Our trout bite hasn’t been the easiest. The full moon last Saturday has let them feed all night long. The one’s we’ve landed have been coughing up shrimp all over the boat. Things should be

Tides, our bite lately has been very tide dependent. On the flats the outgoing tide has been very lack luster. Still landing fish but not in numbers as high as we generally like. Once the tide has shifted however it has been great. The flats in 6+ foot of water have been the most productive as of late. Redfishing near the mangroves has been very good. Only in 2-3 foot of water these fish put up a heck of a fight. Some of them are even sight fished on sunny days. Live shrimp, live pinfish, and cut pinfish has been

Hurting our trout bite quite a bit. Things are on the rebound now however! In the shallows the redfish bite has remained strong at high tide near the mangrove islands. October 13, 2017 Crystal River Fishing Report

Lots of quality fish lately!  The redfish bite has absolutely fired off.  Lots of overslot fish but still some slots being landed.  Live bait has been the key.  Got into some monster black drum earlier in the week in the 30-40 pound range which are an absolute blast on light tackle.  Some great snook have been landed as well primarily on the incoming tides with artificials. -Capt. October 6, 2017 Crystal River Fishing Report

Winds this week have been absolutely brutal but the fish don’t seem to mind.  Some very nice snook have been landed up to 29” with double digit catch numbers midweek.. Dirty water is affecting the trout bite quite a bit but still picking up a few.  Redfish have been in the mix as well with one monster landed at 36 inches! -Capt. Nick
